Richard Schmalensee was the Dean of MIT Sloan School of Management from 1998 through 2007 and is now an emeritus professor of management and economics. In addition to consulting for a number of multisided platforms, Dick was a member of the Board of Directors of the International Securities Exchange, the first electronic marketplace for options, which was sold to Deutsche Borse. He is the author or co-author of 12 books and more than 120 published articles, including several pioneering papers on multi-sided platforms. Dick’s most recent book is Matchmakers: The New Economics of Multisided Platforms, co-authored with David S. Evans. Published by Harvard Business Review Press in 2016, it won the Gold Medal, Economics, for the 2017 Axiom Best Business Book Awards. Dick has B.S. and Ph.D. degrees, in economics, from MIT.
