Waishun Lo
Waishun Lo is a Principal at Market Platform Dynamics with over 15 years of experience in the telecommunications, technology, and software industries. Waishun helps MPD clients create and implement market entry strategies for companies in the mobile content and mobile commerce, digital media, and Web 2.0 spaces. His previous experience includes positions with Bell Labs, Cable & Wireless Innovation, and Hong Kong Telecom, where he worked on a long-term study of Mid-west China as part of its China strategy. Waishun also devised an entry strategy for a newly formed joint venture in the IT consulting field to enter China in the banking sector, and business model design for a world leader in mobile handset manufacturing.
Waishun is a Senior Researcher at Harvard Business School’s (HBS) Asia-Pacific Research Center. At HBS, Waishun’s research covers a variety of industries and topics including emerging technologies, entrepreneurship models, and competitiveness analysis in China, as well as the comparison of multinationals’ entry strategy and operations in China and India. He is also deeply knowledgeable about social and economic developments in Hong Kong and China.
In addition to his posts at HBS and MPD, Waishun serves on the advisory board to the Hong Kong government, where he advises on issues including innovation and technology developments. He was the founder of Silicon Ventures, where he managed investments in early stage telecommunications and technology start-ups in China. He has served on the Boards of two publicly-listed companies in Hong Kong: Asian Information Resources and IIN International.
Waishun holds Bachelor of Science and Masters of Philosophy degrees from Chinese University of Hong Kong, a Ph.D. from Brown University, and has executive management training from INSEAD.
