Emerging Market Opportunities: The Greenfield to the East

MPD helps U.S.-based companies accurately assess the market potential for their product in Asian markets and then devise the appropriate go to market strategies for those products, including product design, pricing and business models, product/service launch strategies, competitive positioning, marketing and sales effectiveness strategies.

Our efforts in Asia are focused in financial services (banking, insurance, payment cards), high-tech, software and internet-based businesses. Many of these companies operate as platforms. As the premier provider of consulting services to these business sectors, MPD is uniquely positioned to assist these enterprises with global expansion.

On the Ground Expertise:

  •  MPD's team includes 20 China-based marketing research and strategic marketing executives based in Shanghai and exclusive access to a network of more than 11,000 Chinese managers who are routinely surveyed on behalf of clients to determine their interests in new products and services. This team has worked with companies including Dell, Merck, Intel, Pfizer, Canada Woods, Kodak and Alcatel to develop and fine-tune their Chinese market, product and customer strategies.
  • MPD's Chairman, Richard Schmalensee is on the board of IDG Technology Venture Investment, China's largest venture capital initiative. As Dean of MIT's Sloan School of Management, Schmalensee also works closely with business and academic leaders of Tsinghua's School of Economic and Management and Fudan's School of Management, the leading business schools in China.
  • Carl A. Hirano, former DoCoMo iMode executive and mastermind of the iMode content and payment model serves MPD as a senior advisor in Asia. Carl is based in Tokyo, Japan.
