  This Forum, called Payment Card Industry Futures: Analyzing Change/Assessing Impact, was moderated by MIT Sloan School Dean Richard Schmalensee. During the event, featured MPD experts David S. Evans and Andrei Hagiu gave brief talks, and were followed by a discussion involving several Boston-based movers and shakers in the venture capital and emerging payment technologies world.

• Antitrust Activity in Card-Based Payment Systems: Causes and Consequences

  In recent years, credit and debit card systems have been the focus of significant antitrust inquiries and actions. Card-based payment businesses in Asia, Australia, Europe, and North America have been investigated for their methods of determining interchange fees, exclusivity arrangements, no-surcharge rules, honor-all-cards rules, membership requirements, and governance policies. MPD experts Richard Schmalensee and David Evans presented on the effects of such antitrust actions.
